Grad School Update (In order of hearing back):
Old Dominion- Yes, tuition, and teaching assistantship
Rutgers- No.
U. of South Carolina- Yes, partial tuition and teaching assistantship
Virginia Tech- Invitation to Graduate Visitor's Day (in my mind that is yes anyways...they wouldn't wine and dine me for nothing right??)
Princeton- No.
Still waiting to hear from:
Duke
NC State
Vanderbilt
Not a bad record so far, if I do say so myself.
Things are going well. The baby 'tism get cancelled because of the snow, so it got rescheduled. Next week is the bridal shower so that should be fun fun fun. Then the week after that I will be taking the Praxis...at get this....7:30 in the morning on a Saturday. Who does that???? why is it scheduled so freaking early???
Went out with the Beck for dinner last night. Good to just catch up, since we kept missing each other the past couple of weeks. I can't believe how quickly the weeks are flying by. Just nutty really. Only a couple more weeks til Spring Break....thank god, less students.
I'm going to get going. Catch ya later.
Football
Now, let me preface this by....I have been going through football withdrawal for the past two weeks.
I think that was the worst officiated, badly played Superbowl I have seen in years. (No, I was not cheering for the Seahawks....or the Steelers.) I just wanted to see a good game. It seemed to lack the urgency, the excitement, the thrill of this being the big game. I was disappointed. I stopped working on my lecture materials to watch this game. The time could have been better spent. I will grant that the last 20 minutes (play clock time) were intriguing. The first half was totally useless. Twiddling my thumbs could have produced a better outcome for the first two quarters.
The commercials weren't that great either. My favorite was the Disney one, with the guys all practicing..."I'm going to Disney World." The diet Pepsi commercial was :oP. I liked the prehistoric FedEx commercial. Oh the thing that I loved the most...the Dr. Seuss's Oh The Places You'll Go intro for the game. That was really amazing. I think I may have to try to find it somewhere on the internet. I thought it was a novel idea.
Blech...not feeling well. I have a dentist appointment on Friday. I'm scared. I've never had a cavity before. This is the first one I am having filled. Ever. I'm a wimp.
Lots o'fun stuff this month (NOT the dentist): baptism for the twins, flogging molly concert???, and my cousin's bridal shower. I think this requires a trip to THE LOFT to buy some purty things.
Okay, must work on lecture stuff. TTFN.

Mr. Rogers Update
Hey all-
So yeah that whole stomach food thing, hasn't really gone away. I feel like I have no appetite. What's worse is that I'm in the cooking kick...I want to make all this food, but I have no desire to eat any of it. Anyways....I've saved a bunch Mister Rogers quotes so here they are.
"Music has given me a way of expressing my feelings and my thoughts, and it has also given me a way of understanding more about life."
"Solitude is different from loneliness, and it doesn't have to be a lonely kind of thing."
"Love doesn't mean a state of perfect caring. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is right here and now-and to go on caring through joyful times and through times that may bring us pain."
"It is tempting to cling to the familiar. Just like in music, if we keep...playing in the key of C, we wouldn't have to take and risks of not making it to the key of E-flat. But we'd never know what it sounded like unless we tried. And once we've had the practice and the pleasure of making a transition from one key to the next, the subsequent times might not be quite so difficult."
"There is much more to independence than learning to master new skills. One of the most important parts of independence is learning to form new relationships with other people."
"A computer can help you learn to spell hug, but it can never help you know the risk or the joy of actually giving or receiving one."
Alright, I'm off.

So Cold I've Been wearing my jacket at work.
First, Thanks Suz, Cryssy, Dana, Laurie, and Sam. It really is quite exciting...and then not so exciting like yesterday. I got the uber thin denial letter from Rutgers.
No I am not crushed at all. It's actually quite good, cause if I had gotten accepted here...there would be a couple of serious reasons for me to contemplate staying around here. But I don't even get the chance to consider them. (Wrong I know...I am still waiting for Princeton but I seriously doubt they would send me an acceptance letter.)
Week 2 of the semester is almost done here. I am amazed at how quickly things are moving, not to mention the fact that it is just about the end of January.
I probably have stuff to grade...and I should go do that....or maybe I'll play a game of sudoku.

BOOYAH Grandma!
Okay...so I am breaking my promise to suz- no Mr. Roger's quotes tonight, too bad being at work. But I have much better news:
I got accepted to Old Dominion University's Applied and Computational Mathematics PHD program. Full tuition paid for, as well as, a 12-month stipend. How freakin' awesome is that?!?!?!?
It's funny cause tonight I was thinking about signing myself up for the Praxis exam. Now I'm not quite sure if I will do it. Kinda a waste of money if I have a school waiting in the wings.
Do I want to go there...I'm not sure yet, I have to wait until February/March until I hear back from all of the institutions, but at least I know I have a home.
I really have no desire to write my exam right now. I'm too excited.

So bad.
Sorry, I'm horrible about acting on my new year's resolution. So here is my check in. Work is hectic. We finally got settled into our new space...get this, the day before classes started. Talk about harrowingly close call.
I haven't been feeling well for the past week, no sleep, not really hungry, although it's starting to come back now. I had my 4 hour class. I nearly lost my voice afterwards. I need to remember to drink more water during the class to keep my throat in working order.
I started my big knitting project- blanket. I'm going to try to do it in about 4 segments and see how it turns out. I hope that I bought enough yarn for it. I guess we'll see about that, although we knows if we'll see about that 1 year down the road. Might not make that color yarn anymore. Booo.
Oh, last night Beck and I hit up the movies....saw the Underworld sequel. It was a good diversion- I couldn't bring myself to watch 3 hours of Kong or Munich, much to serious. But watch out...I think the parents with their seven year old son learned a good lesson- random sex/ soft-core porn scene in this movie. So read make sure you ware watching those parental ratings. There was a huge gasp by the mother behind us. Sometimes I think people need to be screened before and throughout the child-rearing process. It's inappropriate to bring a 7 year old to an R-rated film showing at 10:30 at night. I mean really, come-on. Am I to old fashioned or what???
Ugh, I had more Mr. Roger's quotes, but they are sitting upstairs and I have no desire to run up and get them at the moment. So yeah. I think i'm going to start attacking my lecture notes, want to try to stay ahead (maybe get them all completed by spring break) then I can relax durin the last part of the semester.
Catch ya'll later.

Thanks
First- big thank you to Giesey and to Steve (even though i don't think he knows this exists), and well to all my girls who know the "drama"...I plan on dropkicking the guy to the curb...punching him in the face isn't quite my style....although the Father's Day card idea is quite fascinating. I'll have to keep that one in my back-pocket. A little reason, and not being heavily medicated really does help the thought process when it comes to things like that.
I got a calendar that has little thoughts from Mister Rogers....cause Mr. Roger's freakin' rocks the house and I thought I would share a couple with you all:
"Transitions are almost always signs of growth, but they can bring feelings of loss. To get somewhere new, we may have to leave somewhere else behind."
"I wish that many times I had heard that 'just who you are at this moment, with the way that you're feeling, is fine. You don't have to be anything more than who you are right now.' I'd like to think it's also something that's happened to me through the years, that I'm more able to accept myself as I happen to be, rather than as somebody thought I should be."
"It's really east to fall into the trap of believing that what we do is more important than what we are. Of course, it's the opposite that's true: What we are ultimately determines what we do!"
"I believe that appreciation is a holy thing-that when we look for what's best in a person we happen to be with at the moment, we're doing what God does all the time. So in loving and appreciating our naighbor, we're participating in soemthing sacred."
Ugh work tomorrow :oP

happy new year
Okay.
5 weird things about me:
1. I hate it when people sit on my bed unless I've given them express permission. I'll rip you to shreds if you come anywhere near my pillow.
2. M &M's. I must have an equal number of each color in my hand before i stuff those yummy candies in my mouth. If i pick up 3 red, 2 blue, and 2 green, I'll first eat one red....then have a red/blue/green shot at once....then eat red/blue/green in one shot to finish them off.
3. I can't have massive amounts of soda or i bring myself in to the wonderful land of migraines.
4. I have to do one sudoku puzzle during the day.
5. I'm 23 and i have the body of an 80 year old.
Break has been unbelievably busy. I can't even begin to write about it, well cause there was not much terribly exciting. Talk later...Bowl games on.

A Quickie
Yes yes, I am alive. Firstly, I know I've been tagged. I swear I will write down 5 weird quirks and post them.
Secondly, I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! It's an amazing time of the year. So much going on. I believe there is something on my calendar every day of the week through January 2nd. Not quite sure how the whole clothing issue will get worked out (seeing as I probably will go without doing laundry for 2 weeks, eh)...but I'm sure it will.
Thirdly- Yes I will update more on what the heck is going on around here. It is my part of my new year's resolution, staying in touch with those people whom I miss so much.
shhhhh------ugar.
I gotta go shower and such before the annual Christmas Eve party begins.
Love to all.

Hester- I promised you an entry, so here it is.
So there is this huge hill at one end of my block that is right by the railroad tracks that run parallel to my home. Friday was the first major snowfall of the season. Granted the snow did not fall in Lincroft, I decided to spare life and limb and not go in to work that day. It was both a good decision and a bad one. Good because I probably would have killed myself driving to work on unplowed snowy roads as I cursed Brookdale for being open. Bad because I spent time at home, and I'm slowly beginning to realize that I as much as I love my parents, I can't stand being in the house for that long with them and not go out to work for some period of time. So back to my story. Once the snowing subsided, I headed out to dig out what was Happy car and shovel with my father. The snow was absolutely glistening. I began to hear the little kids at the end of the block shrieking with delight. It immediately brought me back to when I was younger. I lived for being outside on days like that and the "hill" was the best part. Everyone would get bundled up, snow pants, boots, jacket, hats, and mittens to "waddle" our way to the "hill" with our snow tubes, sleds or whatever else we could think of that would slide real fast. The biggest challenge was trying to climb up the in our snow outfits. It was such a view once we managed to make it to the top. Then we braced ourselves for the what was next. We would hop onto our sleds and in one fluid motion we were off sledding down the hill. What a rush. The hysterical screaming, the holding on for dear life, the realization the pavement of the street was fast approaching, and then the competition to see who managed to slide the furthest. For about 5 minutes, I really wished that I was 8 again, and go sledding down the hill, rather then be that oddball old person with the group of 5 year-olds sticking out like a sore thumb.
I finished up cleaning the cars, which was an amazing workout. You want a full body workout- go shovel some snow. Upper body arm strength, utilize the quadriceps, use your core to keep you stabilized. Awesome. Then I returned inside to do the very fun christmas card writing. Okay...I'll admit it...I didn't finish it all, cause I don't have lots of peoples' addresses....seems everyone has moved multiple times and I just can't keep up. Some people got cards and well...others...sorry...and really people what do you expect me to write...I'm a mathematician for crying out loud. It was a painful 2 hours and I think I only wrote 5 cards. :oP
Oh the Christmas tree went up ....about a week ago. I adore the tree. I'm not great at designing, I just love looking at the sparkling lights and how they bounce and shimmer off of the ornaments. I love how you can see our tree out the front window, it makes the house so inviting and warm. I rejoice in the decorations...let me be specific, I am not talking about the gaudy plastic crud people put on their lawns (that includes those blown up balloon wisemen, christmas pooh, disney characters, no matter how enthralled I am with them.) I am talking about the elegant- wreaths with red bows, candles in the windows, garland on railings, traditional stockings, cards strewn on the walls. Think of the scene when Papa comes home in Little Women. That is what I love. Just the little touches that make life feel special during a time when it is icy, cold, and bitter.
Mom's last treatment :::keep your fingers crossed::: is this week. It got pushed back a week on account of something being low. I can't quite remember what. Hopefully this is it. It's been a scary 6 months, so I hope this is the end of it. I can tell she is getting antsy. Friday while my dad and I were shoveling, she walks out all bundled up and grabs a snow scraper and starts attacking the cars. We both double take and yell, "What are you doing?!?!?! You're supposed to be resting." Needless to say she overruled and helped us with the last little bit of cleaning off the cars. I feel like she is ready to be done with this stuff and now go out and be productive, not locked in the house all day. Her cabin fever is somewhat infectious.
I managed to get everyone out to see the Chronicles of Narnia on Saturday. Before I get into the movie, I have one small rant I need to make. If you are coming with a gaggle of children and you want them to all sit together, do not, I repeat, do not show up to the movie 5 minutes after it has started on the opening weekend and expect to find 15 seats in the same row. Make up your mind and sit the kids down somewhere...have one parent sit with each group of kids. Two, buy a popcorn for each group. This eliminates the need for the children to get up every 20 minutes stomp up the stairs...rattle the row-end seats just to get their hands on more popcorn. Oh, and thirdly, make sure your kids go to the bathroom immediately prior to the start of the movie, no one wants to hear, MOMMY I NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM during the most critical part of the movie. Now that I have gotten the annoying 8 year old kids out of the way I think I can speak calmly on Narnia. It was in a word, breathtaking. Absolutely unbelievable. Think Lord of the Rings, but magical....mystical even. This is the first time in a while that I can say that I really found no major faults in the transformation from book to movie. There were some little things that i think didn't quite take place the way they envisioned it, but it was not bothersome at all. Go see it. The effects were outstanding. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver- exactly how I imagined them in the book, and that been married forever, can joke about everything relationship was perfect. Liam Neeson, the voice of Aslan....it took me the entire movie to figure out it was him. It all just fit. I think you will enjoy it.
What else can I say. Ummm some little life things have been unnerving lately. My friend (I'll call him that for the moment), made things very very awkward recently. He wants friendship....but also other things that i don't equate with....friends doing. So I left him with the ultimate statement- "Figure out what you want to be going on here, and figure out soon...cause I'm not going to deal with it." So I guess I'll soon be seeing how things play out, right now I'm just waiting-playing happy friend Resa. But that seems to be my life at the moment- happy friend Resa.
I could probably write on more things that are going on...but I have 3 stacks of labs that I haven't touched at all today...so I should probably get on that.
End Transmission.
