Biding Time

What have I been up do? I house/dog-sat for the past couple of days while my brother, mom and dad traveled to Virginia Tech for Matt's orientation. I primarily accomplished...nothing. Well, no that isn't true. I made a spreadsheet. Kinda like a budget, to attempt to get my life in some semblance of order. I was very proud of myself. It's as cute as a spreadsheet can be. (yes, I am weird. I realize that.)

I finally sat down and picked a song to arrange for the time being. I picked one that I don't feel is disgustingly intricate. Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys. I have the entire bass line done. The lead vocal should be the next easiest thing to get done. The alto soprano parts I have a sketchy idea of what to do. I just need to pull something out of my butt for the tenors. Then I'll have at least one song done for the Infernos. I feel so bad, because I haven't really done much work on the songs. And this song wasn't even one on the list. Keep your fingers crossed that I can try to get two songs done. *I happen to like doing oldies songs, not the newer stuff. No idea why.*

I feel soo...anxious, nervous, the overall butterflies in the tummy feeling. It is Sunday pre-Bachlorette party, pre-first day of work day. For once in my life, I feel not prepared or ready for either of them. Well the bachelorette party...I don't even know. It's on a boat. Probably disgusting close to formal. Not really my cup of tea. Oh well. And work, I'm getting so hung up on what I should bring with me. So confused. What sort of bag, info I need to bring. I apparently need to get a physical before I officially start. Oh I need to have Dickinson send them a transcript so that they know that I really did get a BS.

Ugh with that said, I'm going to rummage through everything yet again, so that it is all in order. Bah I hate feeling like poop.

Yikes!

Okay only a few more days until...dun dun dun...the first day of being in the real world. For the past couple of days, I've started realize that I am in no way ready or prepared for this at all. I have no system of how to handle my now existent cashflow. For crying out loud, I don't even have a briefcase to bring with me to work!

Well the briefcase really isn't that big of a deal. Or so I have been told. The work dress is "comfortable", which supposedly means I can wear jeans if the fancy strikes me. And that is about all I know. Wait, I know that I have a desk in the math lab. But is there a computer that goes with the desk, hmmmm.

But at least the parents are being super cool about things. My dad went with me to go open my first checking account. Wahoo. But that also means I'll have to start paying the entirety of my bills. Don't get me wrong, I was paying nearly half of everything before....but the 'rents were helping out. Still makes me go yikes.

I've started to notice how this job will now cut in to my ability to do cool shit. Like this wedding next week. My first week of work and I need to ask to get out early to go to a rehearsal dinner. At least I get out early enough on Friday to no thave to worry about making the wedding on time. On the 31st, the EHS crosscountry team has it's annual alumni versus students meet. And guess what, I don't know if I'll be able to make it. I get out at 5, but my job is like 45 minutes away, when there isn't traffic. The race starts at 6:15. Just makes me...melancholy. Well maybe if luck holds out I can at least get there with enough time to say hello to everyone.

Ugh, I need to try and arrange music for the Infernos. I've just been so stressed with summer school, now with the new job, that I can't keep my mind focused on it at all. oh well. I have to at least try right. At least one song...I can do that.

Oh anyone who is moving to a new place, ahem- Suz, Cryssy, Jinx, Laurie, lemme know when it is that you will be all moved in. So that I am come and visit. I mean it doesn't get any better than when I am around right???? I know Laurie you said you were moving in August 16 or something like that.

Keep me all update. I miss the big dick atmosphere.

Hurray!!!!

Update-

I have the job at Brookdale!!!!! I start next monday. I feel...so good that I now have something in life. Should be a good job, with benefits. It's about 45 minutes away from my house, about halfway or so to Dana's house.

So the fam took me out to dinner. Plus, since I was missing the Club 383 funness, I went out and got Settlers of Catan. Now just to persuade others to play it with me.

Well the plan, or so it seems for the next year...is to work at Brookdale, meanwhile prepping for the GRE's and subject test. And look at some grad schools for next fall.

Catch ya laters, alligators!

Saturday night and the mood is right...

for a rousing game of Hotels, a Milton Bradley game, with Matt and his friends-> Jason and Paul. Wonderful. Take me back about 10-15 years. What's worse is that I can now say back 10-15 years...and I wouldn't be an infant. I'm old!!!

Also today...went to the park early. Cause it was a great day for running. Overcast, cool, and slightly drizzly. Doesn't get any better than that. Ran about 4-5 miles. Felt the burn for once. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be in shape enough to run the race in August. But if it is nice I'll go and watch.

Went to the mall and picked up an "ipod accessory". This thing called iSkin to protect the outside casing. It's just a big piece of fitted rubber. But it's super cool blue and has a belt attachment. hurray!!! Also went to barnes and noble and picked up a new book by the name of Lamb- The gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal by Christopher Moore. Seems good. I'll give you a full run down once I've finished. I also finally broke down and bought myself the peterson's GRE test review book. I'm determined not to look at the math section at all (which consists nearly entirely of algebra), and just focus on the english and writing portions of the exam. maybe i'll see if i can get together with Dana for a GRE study session sometime soon.

oh and if you have noticed...Soco is now at the top of my LJ, cause I love them so. I need to find a Hanson one as well so i can alternate. I can't think of anything else to report, outside of ...I still don't have a job.

Much love to all.

Finite!

Well- that's it. Today was my last day of summer school Algebra 1. I showed October Sky as a treat and let them out early. What an experience! It almost makes me rethink this whole job thing. I don't know if I am fit enough to take on being responsible for successfully preparing young people for that which we call life. But maybe all teachers initally feel that way. sigh.

The interview at Brookdale....was alright. The people seemed really nice. We'll see in a few more days. I'm not getting my hopes up. Just wait and see...and not be surprised when I still by next wednesday don't have a job.

Other than that...my life is totally utterly unexciting. Outside of this dream I had. Yes, I actually had a dream. It's been forever since I actually remember dreaming...and for that matter remembering the dream. So- what follows is my weird dream. Maybe someone can interpret it for me.

So, I was out, at a dinner show with two other people. One was Cryssy (no, I don't know how you got into my dream...but there you are), and the other person I never saw. Apparently the dinner show is about 3 princesses' mothers have a fight with this evil witch character. And fancy that, we three get picked. We are all suited up in 3 oversized brightly colored dresses. I only remember mine was big blue and poofy. So we all get ready for the show. And at the start of the show...I'm chosen to go first against the evil witch. Go figure, I'm the first to "die". There was an explosion of pink smoke, and I'm hurtled over the audience and thrown through the huge doors at the other end of the room. I land softly in the lobby area which looked like a lobby of a huge corporation with lots of windows and light. There were lots of people in the lobby, and for some reason there was a concession stand serving food out there. I knew for some reason i needed to take an elevator to some floor to get to the backstage area again...but i couldn't remember the floor. 2 other women joing me on the elevator. it was an odd elevator....slanted, made of glass...and almost those sort of old fashioned elevator cages. I try the 3rd floor. The women were heading to the 9th. I distinctively remember stating "I hate these elevators." I get off at the 3rd floor realizing I wanted the 2nd floor. I land on a huge conference table, which wobbles so much that I slide off the side. The dream ends with a secretarial type lady saying to me, "Aren't there restrooms for the dinner show on the first floor?"

So ends my weird crazy dream. There I will leave you as well.

Ba do Ba dop

Something quick...

Had fun last night: saw Rusty, Cris, Minna, Tom, Mike Yip, Steve, Manish, and a couple of people I don't know if I know...and if I do know them, I can't remember from where. We all went out to see I, Robot. Surprisingly, it was a really good movie. If you have a chance, go and see it. It was good action, a side of intelligence, and some comedy. Nice flick.

Only one week to go...and I need to some up with something fun to do next friday. Something will come to me I suppose. Nothing new to report otherwise.

Something really quick...

Almost all done with my third week. It's been almost hell like. Just soooo long. Not to mention the kids have suddenly become the bestest of friends. So now they talk, at every chance they get. But at least the grades are picking up. There was one test I gave...that everyone just bombed...but since then everything has been turning out well.

I've hit the point in the syllabus, where I only need to go over 2 or 3 sections a day, so I'm usually left with extra time at the end of class. So I've decided to start reading my favorite fun math book, the Mathematical Devil, to the class. Not to bad...they seemed to be...slightly interested...although it's a different way of looking at mathematics.

Other news: I'm going to a bachelorette party in about 2 weeks. 1st one ever, should be interesting. Oh yes, remember way back in the day I said I have applied for a job at Brookdale Community College. Well yesterday (maybe it was 2 days ago, I can't remember) they finally, called me up. They want me to come in for an interview. Yippee!! The job is under 45 minutes away(not bad). Plus I could stay home. Not to shabby. The interview is next tuesday in the afternoon. Tuesday will then be a crazy: run to school, teach, come home, eat, change, drive to BCC, interview, drive back, then relax. (more like grade papers, oi!)

Yey- tomorrow going out with the gang to see I, Robot.

Touch base later.

This Time Around....

Well, I've knocked 2 weeks down working at the summer school. Only two long full weeks left to go. I keep losing kids in the class, though. I now have about 21 left in the class. What has been even better, due to the fact that it was a holiday-ish sort of week, some kids were out...so I only had 18 kids for much of the week. It was great. Plus it's good to see that a good majority of the kids are doing very very well.

So you ask how did the rest of the week go? Well July 4th, was great to see everyone. Becks, Cris, Scott, Steve, Mike Yip, Rusty, Tom, James, and Mike. The fireworks were so much fun. To able to sit out just as dusk became dark in the park where I usually run, look up in the sky and see spectacular glittering lights. As well, as feeling the cracking booms...enough so that you feel it throughout your body.

I went and saw King Arthur. Not great movie. The last half hour was a battle scene. Not wonderful after watching LotR battle scenes. Plus, I didn't particularly like the interpretation of the Arthurian legend. ah oh well.

But to treat myself for working so hard: I went to my first Hanson concert after ...nearly 8 years of being a fan. Wahoo!!! Met up with my fellow Inferno alto, Sarah. Becks was kind enough to drive. We had a little trouble getting off at the right exit, but Becks and I didn't panic and navigated our way through Philly to get to the Electric Factory. The place wasn't nearly as packed as when Suzer and I saw Soco there, but the atmosphere was still amazing. We sat up in the 21 and over portion of the upper area, since we both are super short. But we had the greatest view ever. The first band Ingrim Hill (I don't know if I spelled that right) was pretty good. They had this crazy guy with a cowboy hat just bouncing all over the stage. Their sound was good, music good. Maybe I'll think about looking for their cd. The second band, that almost everyone else there was raving about...Ben Jelen. Not good. He tried to do piano rock...but maybe I just have high standards with my Soco and Ben Folds. Then he tried to play the electric violin during a song or two...doesn't work...you know who it does work for...Yellowcard. Not as good as Yellowcard...sounded more like the national anthem then anything else the way he played. :oP The only good song they played was Let It Be by the Beatles. Becks and I wondered how many people in the crowd realized the Beatles wrote the song. But the drummer was friggin' amazing during their rendition of it. Off the hook. oops, but my advice to the drummer is...drop this crappy songwriter ben jelen and start your own band cause you can do it with your drumming skills. Ahhh Hanson, just awesome. I have no words. The energy was out of this world. It was a plugged in show. It was just as I had imagined it would be. Felt like I was back in freshman year of high school listening to them for the first time. OH, each of the guys did a individual song by themselves...and Isaac, the older one for those of you who don't know, played my favoritest Bill Wither's song ever...Ain't No Sunshine. :::melting::: They played MMMBop, I have a new found love for it again...not that I didn't love it before. Becks and I bought some shirts...cause I can't go to a show for a band I love and not pick up a shirt. Then we travelled home. It was the greatest 10 hours I can remember in a long time...well since I've been away from Dickinson.

Well it's sunday...and that means I must slowly start to get ready for the upcoming week. That doesn't make me very happy but, i'll be getting paid soon, and that is a good thought.

Love you all muchly.

One Week Down...3 to go

Well, I've done it. Completed the first week of summer school without me seriously injuring any of the students for their lack of enthusiasm or ability. Maybe I should consider that a success? It isn't so bad, now that the class is getting into the routine of how the class is run. They are now becoming more comfortable with even just answering questions. It has been good so far. Oh my class is now down to 25, one of the kids I had was really registered for a different class. So, I got that all taken care of. Every day after class I feel sooo exhausted. I nearly take a nap everyday. But it's good because I feel challenged enough trying to attempt to explain ideas to these kids.

What else have I done this week? It was my mom birthday. So we had some people over to the house. I inadvertantly learned that I was chosen (asked after the fact) to be a "hostess"/"progam hander-outer" for our friend Pam's wedding. Yes, even in all the hub-ub of how crazy I think her mother is, I said yes. Weddings are fun. And besides, I'll get to see Michael in black tie clothing. So it'll be great. Ummm, this is the second time I've gone to a movie by myself. Went to see Spiderman 2.

***Scary Tale*** I find a nice row all to myself. I'm not exactly sitting in the middle...but close to it. The row wasn't long. But 3 minutes before the movie starts, this older man with about 4 kids comes in and sits next to me. Now, one kid (about age 15) says he doesn't want to sit on the end of the row. So he proceeds to sit in the seat next to me. Then he asks me what grade I'm in. I try not to snicker so badly, but I tell him I've graduated from college. Now, I've dashed the poor kid's hopes. He says I look really young. If that isn't enough to deter him, he continues to talk to me. Asks me was my major is, do I have a job. He says he hates algebra, I tell him I teach algebra in summer school. It can't get any worse. Well by now the movie should have started 15 minutes ago. No previews...nothing. oi, still stuck talking to this kid...and then this other boy about a seat away from me on the other side starts joining in as well. Oh the humanity. I just wanted to watch the movie. :::Sigh::: Finally, the movie starts and I can rest in peace.

Oh, I learned about the new harry potter book as well. It's called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Sounds exciting. Supposedly, the HBP has nothing to do with either Harry or Voldemort. So it has me thinking. I might read Chamber of Secrets over again to see if their are any clues. Rowling said that she wrote most of the ideas found in book six while writing book two. So that is my thought. I also bought this book called Eragon. It is part of a trilogy written by, get this, a 16 year old in Montana. I'm about half way through the book. It is very well written, considering his age. It is Lord of the Rings-esque. I'm fairly certain the kid draws his inspiration for the book from LotR, but it's amazing how different it is. He has created his own fictional world with an immense history. I suggest if you are able to go pick it up if you are able. Big plus it has dragons in it. yippee!!
